Waxahachie is a suburb of DFW located 30 miles south of Dallas and 40 miles east of Fort Worth. Waxahachie is known for its historic architecture, art galleries, and natural areas.
Waxahachie’s Historic Downtown District is home to many antique shops, boutique clothing stores, unique restaurants, and beautiful 19th century architecture. Waxahachie residents will also enjoy the Downtown Farmers Market that runs May through October.
The Ellis County Museum is located on the southeastern side of the downtown square and showcases a variety of exhibits outlining the county’s history and heritage. Some exhibits include legacies of mammoths, buffalo that roamed the Blackland Prairies, and the founding of Ellis County.
You will find some of the best fishing in North Texas at Lake Waxahachie. It is a scenic recreational lake where fishers can find catfish, largemouth bass, white bass, and crapple.
The Waxahachie Creek Hike & Bike Trail is a four-mile jogging and biking trail that runs along the creek and through the scenic woods. The trail begins in Getzendaner Park and ends in Lions Park on the south side of town.
